I am a qualified science teacher with 7 years experience.
Before training as a science teacher I followed a successful international career in research and development after completing my PhD in biochemistry. This experience has proved extremely useful in helping students to develop the independent learning and scientific investigation skills for their coursework tasks.
I teach in a way that develops my students` enthusiasm for learning while ensuring that they gain all the knowledge and skills required to shine in science.
I have successfully taught science to students of all abilities from gifted to SEN, in good and outstanding secondary schools in London. I teach Chemistry, Biology and Physics to GCSE level and Chemistry to A level.
Why I Teach
I followed a career in research and development since completing my PhD. I enjoyed the sense of discovery as we investigated, created and then developed new products. Product development is stimulating and creative and we were always challenged to excel and supported by continuous learning and training to remain at the forefront of technical knowledge.
This skill of searching out new information and innovations has been extremely useful in finding and developing resources for teaching. I have also used this experience to students develop independent learning and scientific investigation and research skills especially for their coursework tasks.
I gained great satisfaction and pleasure from coaching team members in product development and project management techniques and processes. I aimed to convey to them a sense of discovery and curiosity. These are skills that I have been able to apply directly in my teaching especially as I can use real world examples
To deepen my scientific and technical knowledge I worked abroad both in the USA (two years) and The Netherlands (three years). These secondments were also personally invaluable in that I made great friends, experienced living in different cultures.
While based in the UK my projects have given me the opportunity to work closely with colleagues in Western Europe, Russia, Brazil and the USA. I enjoyed the challenge of adapting my working and communication style to ensure that I am clearly understood by all my colleagues.
My experience of teaching and working has provided me with the flexibility to modify my teaching and communication style to suit different students.
I work from my home in a dedicated study with all resources readily available.

"I have done a year of tuition with Karen Sanni for my A-level chemistry exams and she has helped me to improve my chemistry significantly. Karen Sanni has helped me a great deal to understand the content in the course by going through the topics which I did not understand thoroughly and then she would test my understanding. During the session she would provide me with various questions of varying degree of difficulty to make sure that I could answer them and attain all the marks. Karen Sanni has helped me to achieve an A grade in A-level chemistry and I would recommend her to anyone who wants obtain good marks in A-level chemistry." Mr N: Student - A level Chemistry
"Karen has taught my daughter for 2 years, in the preparation of her GCSEs in science. C has enjoyed the tuition with Karen. She gained a lot in confidence and her results have improved. Karen is a very calm and patient tutor. she has amazing range of resources. I would recommend her." Mrs I: Parent - GCSE Science
